Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is a procedure that trained Speech Language Pathologists perform to assess swallowing function. The procedure involves use of a flexible scope which is inserted into the nose and down to the level of the base of the tongue. FEES offers visualization and imaging to examine the pharyngeal and laryngeal structures. This procedure allows the trained and skilled speech language pathologist to evaluate the swallowing impairment as well as create a patient specific plan of care to effectively treat the underlying mechanics of the impaired swallow.
